Are You Faithful?

For me, I actually find it to be really challenging to walk by faith every day, in every situation. It's a struggle for me not to focus on my circumstances, on my perceptions, on my own resources, on the people around me and on worldly practices and ideas. I often struggle with anxiety and worry. I worry a lot about things that I can't control. My mind is often filled with what-if scenarios.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2

When I share these anxieties with my husband, the first question he always asks me is, "Are you faithful?" It usually stops me in my tracks because it makes me realize that I'm not, in fact, faithful if I'm full of worry.

"Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety." Proverbs 29:25

I've heard a number of pastors and speakers say that you can't be both full of faith and full of fear. And they are absolutely right. I have to make a conscious choice to be full of faith rather than allow fear to dictate my thoughts, emotions, actions and reactions.

"A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil." Ephesians 6:10

I have to fight, really fight to stay faithful in situations when what I'm seeing and experiencing is painful, confusing, frustrating, not what I expected or difficult to bare. During those times, fear begins to creep in. It only takes a small window of fear to allow the enemy to slip in and relentlessly attack me in ways that he knows will suffocate my faith.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD" Isaiah 55:8 I've found the best way to combat fear is by reading His word. When I'm engrossed in His word, I'm reminded of His faithfulness, His love, His grace, His mercy and His ways. His ways are not our ways nor are they the ways of this world.

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right." 2 Timothy 3:16

The book was written for me as a child of God. When I open the Bible and read verses of scripture that He has directed me to, I know He is speaking to me directly as His daughter. I find comfort, direction, support, guidance, love, confidence, and peace through His word.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

I believe one of the reasons what is written in the Bible is called the living word of God is because what is written can be applied to my daily walk, every situation, every circumstance, every single day.

"I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears." Psalm 34:4

What I'm striving for is to live and breathe what has been written. It is one of the ways my Father in Heaven speaks to me. It is one of the ways He speaks to all of His children.

Children of God, are you faithful?

With Love,
