The Gift of Peace
My family has been swept up in a whirlwind of transitions this past month. With all of the recent changes, I've also experienced a wave of uncertainty, doubts, and fears. While sharing some of these feelings with my husband, he said something to me that has really resonated with me.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
He told me that he has come to realize that life is just an ongoing walk in faith. That there will always be uncertainty or things to potentially worry about but that the Lord is grooming us to literally wake up every single day and walk in faith, trusting Him to guide us and direct us through every trial, and all of the uncertainty. He also reminded me that despite the uncertainties and those things in life that can cause us to fear, worry or doubt, we can still find peace in Him.
"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4
While confiding in a friend recently, she shared that she believes the Lord is trying to teach me to see things and experience every circumstance with thanksgiving and joy, recognizing God's grace and His presence even in the midst of trials or uncertain times. The Lord confirmed this on Sunday when my family visited my parents' church for the first time and the pastor shared the same message using the apostle Paul's testimony. I knew the Lord was speaking directly to my heart and I have no doubt that He is trying to change me in this area. If Paul can find and share joy, love, and hope from a Roman prison, I can certainly find and share those things in my circumstances.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
There's no question that life can be challenging and our circumstances can feel overwhelming, confusing, scary or impossible but through His word, the Lord tells us that He has overcome the world. Putting our faith and trust in Him in all circumstances, allows us to experience peace even in the midst of a storm. That's a true gift that is only offered through Christ. This is a gift He has offered to all of His children.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
